At ISB, offers pour, but average pay flat at Rs 18 lakh

The largest-ever placement programme by Indian School of Business (ISB) has seen India Inc making a beeline to hire the Class of 2013.

But the salary packages offered so far are similar to those offered last year, an ISB official said. "We follow a rolling placement model. The data available so far indicate an average package of about Rs 18 lakh."

ISB currently has two campuses in Hyderabad and Mohali. The total strength of the campuses is 762 students.

For the first time, the ISB has kicked off an integrated placement programme instead of conducting it at each of the campuses.

Deepak Chandra, deputy dean, ISB, said the integrated approach has proved successful.

"It has set new benchmarks by attracting the highest number of recruiters who have made the largest number of offers that we have ever received," he said.

A total of 421 companies, 21% more than last year, made 798 offers with technology companies making the most.

Over 300 offers were made by 53 companies such as Apple, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Facebook, Google, HCL, Hewlett Packard, IBM, ITC Infotech, Microsoft and Wipro.

Consulting sector was the second-largest recruiter contributing 163 offers from about 30 companies, including A T Kearney, Accenture, Booz, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Global eProcure, KPMG, McKinsey, Oliver Wyman, Parthenon and PwC.

Interestingly, there is a revival in activity in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector. Several leading banks and other financial institutions, including Citibank, Delta Partners, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, ICICI Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, UBS and Yes Bank made a total of 75 offers.

Pharma, biotech and healthcare majors including Biocon, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Johnson & Johnson, Max Healthcare, Novartis Pharma AG and Ranbaxy Laboratories made 58 offers.

Apart from consulting, sales & marketing were the two most preferred functional areas for ISB graduates attracting 27% and 21% of students, respectively.

Recruiting companies for sales & marketing roles included Arvind Lifestyle Brands & Retail, Bharti Walmart, Britannia Industries, Dabur India, Hindustan Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser and Videocon Industries.
