Abu Jundal threatens to go on hunger strike, court to hear his plea today

MUMBAI, April 2, 2013

Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal, the alleged handler of 26/11 gunmen, has written a letter to the Arthur Road jail superintendent threatening to go on indefinite hunger strike from Monday unless he is moved from solitary confinement.

Ansari on March 28 wrote a letter to jail authorities in which he said he was losing his mental balance since he was kept in solitary confinement. "In spite of my repeated requests, I have not been examined by the psychiatrist. Hence I will be going on indefinite hunger strike till I am removed from solitary confinement and kept with other prisoners," the letter read.

However, the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOC) court on Monday asked him not to go on hunger strike and assured him that his grievances would be addressed on Tuesday, when the jail superintendent would also be present to resolve the issue.

Ansari in the past complained to authorities that Ajmal Kasab appears in his dreams ever since he was kept in the room where Kasab had been held before being hanged. The court had then ordered his complete psychological check up and the report certified Ansari as medically fit.
