WORKSHOP-CUM-KISAN MELA AT PAU ON MARCH 6-7

LUDHIANA, MARCH 5:



The Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, will be organizing a two-day workshop-cum-kisan mela on March 6 and 7 in collaboration with the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Punjab Forest Department (PFD), Northern India Plywood Manufacturers Association and Wood Technologists Association (WTA). The workshop entitled "Role of Kisan Mela in Sustainable Supply of Wood for Industries" will be held at Wheat Auditorium of PAU. Sh. Surjit Kumar Jayani, Minister of Forest and Labour, Punjab, will grace the occasion as the chief guest. He will also inaugurate the exhibition which will showcase plantation and wood-based technologies. The PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, will address the gathering on this occasion. Dr P.P. Bhojvaid, Director of FRI, and Mr J.A. Chauhan, Head, Extension Division, FRI, will give a brief introduction of the programme and will deliver welcome address, respectively. The workshop will see the participation of farmers, self-help groups, non-government organizations and agro-based industries from across the Punjab state.



Giving details, Dr Avtar Singh, Head, Forestry and Natural Resources Department, PAU, said that the workshop aims at disseminating farm technologies and encouraging the farmers and the self-help groups to adopt agro-forestry activities in their farmland and reap economic benefits. There will three technical sessions for transmission of technical knowledge on silviculture, management of agro-forestry species and developing marketing system for agro-forestry produces. He further told that the experts from FRI, PAU, PFD, and industries will be the resource persons.
