TALK ON IPR AND COMMERCIALISATION OF TECHNOLOGIES ORGANISED AT PAU

LUDHIANA, MARCH 6:



Dr Sudhir Kumar Sethi, Senior Maize Breeder, and Head of Business Planning and Development (BPD) Unit, CCS Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, delivered a talk on "IPR and Commercialization of Technologies" at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The talk was organized by Technology Marketing and Intellectual Property Rights (TMIPR) Cell, PAU.



Dr Sethi highlighted the importance of commercialization of technologies and identification of potential technologies for commercialization. Sharing the benefits of licensing to the industry and the technology generating organizations, he said that this process helps in putting the technology transfer on fast-track across the country. It will not only be beneficial to the Punjab farmers but to the farmers of other states as well. In the process, additional funding through royalty, licensing will give a boost to the University's financial resources in terms of its research programmes in emerging areas.



Dr. J.S. Dhiman, Additional Director of Research (Natural Resource and Plant Health Management), PAU, in his presidential address, highlighted the importance of getting patents, and commercialization of technology. The BPD unit of HAU and TMIPR Cell of PAU should interact in IPR and technology commercialization, he said, adding that the commercialization helps in generating impact, enhancing visibility, and looking after the IPR of scientists.



Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr S.S. Chahal, Director, TMIPR Cell, highlighted the mandate and programme of the Cell. The faculty and the students were sensitized on the need of IPR and commercialization of technologies, to enhance the impact of technologies developed by state agricultural universities.
