93rd Annual Sports Meet of the SCD Government College Ludhiana begins

The 93rd Annual Sports meet of the SCD Government College Ludhiana begins today with full fanfare , colourful parade of the sportspersons and oath ceremony of the sports students to take part in the games with discipline and dignity. Principal of the College Mrs Poonam Mittal hoisted the Sports flag and Vice Principal of the Government College for Girls Mrs Sudarshan Mehta who was Guest of honour in the Opening ceremony took the salaute from the parade of sports persons representing different houses. In her welcome address to the guests and students Mrs Poonam Mittal Principal of the College said that participation in the games not only provide physical development but it also develop the human brain to bring creativity and energy which leads to happiness and growth. In the first day more than 1500 students participated in the 20 sports events which include races, long jump, jump, Javelin throw, Shotput and other athletic events. Student of the College Gurjant Singh steal the show by showing remarkable performance in 800 meter race and 200 meter race and got first position after beating all previous records. Mrs Poonam Mittal and other staff members of the Physical education department congratulated Gurjant for his remarkable acheivements. Other stalwarts of the college who bagged first position in different events include: Harjinder Singh First in 5000 meter race, Chetan Khanna first in 800 meter race for evening college students, Dpinder Singh first in High jump (Morning), Jatinderpal Singh first in Javelin through, Deepika Dhawan first in High jump for girls, , Navdeep singh Singh first in javelin throw and discuss throw for girls, Dapinder Singh first in shotput and javelin throw, deepika dhawan first in long jump for girls, inderpal singh shot put for boys, Manish chohan first in triplle jump for boys, hardeep singh first in discuss throw for evening college and Navdeep Sandhu first in shotput for girls. The major events will be held tommorow and Mrs Poonam mittal said that her staff members has taken personal interest to improve the performance of the studnets in various events to produce National and international events and it is expected that some new records will be recorded in tommorow events. Prof. Jaipal Singh, General secretary of Punjab Government College teachers Association, Prof. Surjit Singh Vice Principal of the College, Prof Ujjalbir Singh Head of the Commerce Department, Mrs Sunanda Joshi, Head of the English department, Prof. Mukesh Arora, head of the Hindi Department, Prof. Gurcharan Singh, Registrar of the College, Prof. Deepak Chopra, Bursar of the college and Prof. Bhupinder Khurana, Finance Secretary of the Parents Teachers Association of the college took personal interest to monitor the who event and actively participated to ensure the success of the sports meet.
