CIPHET licenses tomato processing technology to Andra Pradesh farmer

Ludhiana, March 13



Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) today licensed the technology of processing of tomato products for making value added products to Mr Amarnatha Reddy of Andra Pradesh. He was also provided hands-on-training for making these products.



Handing over the copy of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to the farmer, Officiating Director Dr P.R Bhatnagar said that number of value added products could be prepared from tomato and farmers/entrepreneurs could enhance their income manifolds by processing them. Fresh tomatoes could not be stored for very longer time and during the peak seasons they are sold at very cheap prices. Such losses could be prevented by processing them into various products, said Dr D.R Rai, Head Transfer of Technology Division.

Dr S.N Jha, Head, Agriculture Structures and Environment Control (AS&EC) Division, informed that CIPHET has developed appropriate processing methods and different equipments for preparation of tomato puree and powder. "While processing of raw fruits and vegetables fetch higher prices to farmers, it saves time of urban working women," added Dr K Narsaiah, Incharge Institute Technology Management Unit. Senior Scientist Dr M.R Manikantan, Senior Scientist Dr D.M Kadam and Scientist Dr Yog Maya were also present on the occasion.
