LUDHIANA, FEBRUARY 4:
A five-day training programme on "Agro-Based Industries," organized by the Department of Processing and Food Engineering of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), began here today. The training course aims at imparting training to the farmers and rural youth, who are interested in setting-up their agro-processing complexes. The course involves the participation of about 30 trainees from across the Punjab state.
Dr Ashok Kumar, Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, said that the participating farmers and rural youth will be provided training in the area of various agro-industries such as grain milling, oil seed and pulses milling, processing of spices, animal feed milling, and quality control, packaging and marketing of the finished products. Besides, the farmers will be provided an opportunity to interact with the banking experts and seek information regarding loans, state agencies for subsidies, etc. Dr Kumar added that the department has been conducting such type of training courses to motivate the producer to become processor as well. Many farmers have established agro-processing complexes throughout Punjab and are running them successfully after receiving training from the PAU, he highlighted.
