SAVE WHEAT CROP FROM YELLOW RUST

Current weather in Punjab state is very favorable for the development of yellow rust of wheat. Already the inoculum is well spread in sub mountainous districts of SBS Nagar, Ropar, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur. There are also reports of its recent occurrence in other parts of the State like Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Ferozepur, Ludhiana etc. Frequent rains and cloudy weather is highly conducive for its further spread as well as development. Apart from favoring yellow rust development, this weather is also conducive for occurrence of Karnal bunt of wheat, which adversely affects the grain quality.



Farmers throughout the State are advised to keep monitoring their fields regularly to detect any disease symptoms of yellow rust and in the event of observing disease symptoms should spray Tilt/Folicur/Shine/Bumper fungicide @200ml/200 liter water per acre. For spraying the fungicide, farmers are advised to use cone type nozzle only and avoid flood-jet/cut nozzles. The spray of fungicides will not only help to check yellow rust but also act as preventive measure against Karnal bunt of wheat.
