LUDHIANA, FEBRUARY 6:--

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) faced financial crunch upto 2011-12. For the current financial year (2012-13), the Govt. of Punjab made unprecedented increase in Non-Plan and Plan budget of the University from Rs. 103.6 crore to Rs.190 crore (besides providing Rs. 80 crore from Rural Development Fund), which greatly lifted the morale of PAU. For discussing budgetary requirements of PAU for the next financial year (2013-14), the Hon'ble Finance Minister, Punjab, S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, called the VC of PAU, Dr B.S. Dhillon today, February 6, 2013. After the meeting, the Vice Chancellor informed that he had a very cordial meeting, and the Hon'ble Minister seriously listened to PAU's financial needs. The VC further stated that S. Dhindsa was very considerate about requirements of PAU and the Punjab agriculture, and assured all types of financial help including payment of due arrears to PAU Employees and an increase of about 10% in PAU's budget for the year 2013-14. The Minister also showed his willingness to consider providing additional funds for new research projects and training of scientists in the advanced laboratories.

Earlier, during his visit to the PAU in December, 2012, S. Dhindsa had stated that the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Parkash Singh Badal is serious in his efforts to promote the working of PAU, and the State Govt. won't let the University have any financial difficulties.

Dr. Dhillon on his own behalf and on behalf of PAU fraternity expressed his gratefulness to the state government for increase in the budget of the University for the current financial year and for meeting the financial needs of PAU for the next financial year.
