A Rolls Royce with a ‘desi’ touch

HYDERABAD, February 22, 2013

Makers of the most luxurious and expensive set of wheels, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, may soon unveil an Indian edition of their car, one that would be specifically tailored to the buyer's taste, said Herfried Hasenoehrl, General Manager-Emerging Markets.

Asked about how Rolls Royce would tailor the car to be Indian, he said they were working on it.

"For example, the peacock is India's national bird, while Charminar represents Hyderabad. We could think of a lotus, but that represents a political party here. We are in discussions with professionals and designers and want to be sure of the quality before we unveil it," he said.

"We could also perhaps incorporate these concepts into the design of the car in a way that would indicate the addition of an Indian touch," he said.

Together with Paul Harris, Regional Director-Asia Pacific, Mr Hasenoehrl was here to announce the appointment of Kun Motoren as its dealer here, its third in the country after Mumbai and New Delhi.

In the coming months, they would add dealerships in Chennai, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad too, he said.

Mr. Hasenoehrl said the Dragon edition of the car that was brought out for the Chinese market last year was in other markets too.

The Indian edition may not involve large numbers but it could be a customised Phantom or Ghost series, he said.
