LUDHIANA, JANUARY 2:
The Directorate of Extension Education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will organize a training course on "Production, Marketing and Post-Harvest Management of Fruits, Vegetables and Flower Crops" for the farmers of Rampur, district Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, from January 7 - 11 at Centre for Trainings, Kairon Kisan Ghar.
Divulging details, Dr M.S. Gill, Director of Extension Education, said that the PAU experts of the Floriculture and Landscaping, Vegetable Science, Fruit Science and the senior extension specialists will deliver lectures on scope of floriculture and landscaping; flower seed production of annuals; management of diseases of ornamental plants; scope of vegetables for diversification in agriculture; cultivation of capsicum and tomato in net and poly houses; scope of fruit cultivation; management and latest production technologies of mango and litchi; canning of fruits and vegetables and entrepreneurship development. Besides, the trainees will be educated about production of loose and cut flowers; flower production of chrysanthemum; cultivation of vegetables in low tunnels; cultivation of garlic and peas; and management practices, high density planting, crop and quality regulations in citrus and grapes, he said. Apart from dwelling upon harvesting, grading, packaging and storage of fruits, the experts will also shed light on training, pruning, rejuvenation and intercropping in orchards. For practical exposure, Dr Gill said that the trainees will be visiting PAU nursery, orchards and vegetable farms, in addition to Punjab Horticulture Post-Harvest Technology Centre (PHPTC) in the University campus. The horti-exposure trip will also be organized to Amritsar. The trainees can get themselves registered for the course on January 7 at 9.00 a.m. at Kairon Kisan Ghar of PAU.
