LUDHIANA, JANUARY 25:
A five days training programme on "Seed production and processing," organized at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Seed Farm, Ladhowal, concluded today. The training, held under the aegis of Director (Seeds) of PAU, saw the participation of agricultural/horticultural field workers engaged in seed production.
Meanwhile, a field visit for seed certification officers of Punjab State Seed Certification Authority was also conducted at USF today under the training course on "Managerial aspects of seed production and certification." The course was organized by Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI), PAU, under the guidance of Dr Gursewak S. Sandhu, Director, State Seed Certification Authority.
During the training, Dr P.S. Brar, Director, University Seed Farm (USF), Ladhowal, elaborated the practical aspects of the seed production and conducted a thorough field visit of the seed production area of the seed farm. He acquainted the trainees with the seed certification tags and rat-proof stores of USF. Besides, he discussed the techniques, problems and scope of vegetable seed production as well as field crops. He distributed the certificates to the participants.
The Director (Seeds) of PAU, Dr H.S. Randhawa, discussed the procedure of the seed certification for the production of certified and foundation seeds.
Dr Deepak Arora, Assistant Seed Production Specialist, and Dr T.P. Singh, Assistant Plant Breeder, described the methods of seed production and processing of vegetable crops. They also demonstrated the working of seed processing plant and the techniques of seed grading, packaging, labeling and storage.
Dr M.S. Mahal, Director of PAMETI, proposed the vote of thanks.
