FARMERS FROM ASEAN COUNTRIES VISIT PAU

LUDHIANA, DECEMBER 25:--



A 27-member delegation from ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) countries visited Punjab Agricultural University today. The delegation comprised of one agricultural officer and two farmers, each from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, LaoPDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Their visit has been sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi under ASEAN-India exchange programme. The members of the delegation visited Museum of Rural History of Punjab, College of Home Science and Crop Museum in the department of Plant Breeding and Genetics. They also visited the research farm of the University to see various crops and had interactions with the University scientists. Dr. H. S. Sehgal, Additional Director of Communication, Centre for Communication and International Linkages gave a brief account of the infrastructure, human resource, academic programmes, research accomplishments and on-going research and transfer of technology programmes of the University



Team leader Dr. A. M. Narula, Zonal Project Director, ICAR, informed that the visit of the farmers and agricultural officers to India is to see the Indian farming system. The delegation had earlier visited Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa, New Delhi and National Dairy Research Institute at Karnal. The visit is a part of the ASEAN-Indian exchange programme and a delegation of Indian farmers and agricultural officers will visit ASEAN nations in the near future, he informed. The delegation also interacted with Dr. Ramandeep Singh Jassal, Deputy Director (PR) and Dr. Sharanbir Kaur Bal of the College of Home Science.
