Time up for militants and military, says Imran

Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan said on Wednesday that time was up for trying to resolve the issues plaguing the India-Pakistan relations through "militancy and militarily," but said that unless the Kashmir issue was resolved, there would "always be a possibility" of attacks similar to 26/11



At a World Economic Forum meeting, Mr. Khan, chief of Tehreek-e-Insaf, said that if his party came to power, he would not allow terrorism against India to originate from his country. While improvement in the bilateral trade was welcome, the Kashmir issue must also progress on a parallel line.



A solution to the issue was "vital," he said. "Trade, connections, along with cricket matches, will help. At the same time, we should develop some sort of a road map to resolve the Kashmir issue, which is vital."



Stressing the need for a "new relationship," Mr. Khan said: "No more trying to resolve our problems through militancy and military but through politics. It should be two-pronged. One to normalise, open up relationships with trade on one side, and then start a dialogue on Kashmir."
