PLAN FOR CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS OF PUNJABI JOURNALISM ON FOREIGN LANDS: THIND

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 20:-----



Punjabis have gone in almost every country of the world. Wherever they have gone they endeavoured creating niche of Punjabi culture, value system and language. These views were expressed by Gurbhajan Gill, President, Punjabi Sahit Akademy while introducing Mr. Harjinder Singh Thind during a tete-e-tete with him. The history is that in 1913 the Ghadhar party activists promoted Punjabi journalism by starting Ghadhar newspaper, he said adding that now a number of dailies, weeklies and monthlies are published from many countries in Europe and America. The Punjabis settled there see a connection with their roots through these newspapers. Mr. Thind got reputation of a crusader against drug addiction during 1976-77 in the film Kala Suraj (black sun) who also played a significant role in Jee Ayaian Noon of Harbhajan Mann. Different litterateurs interacted with Mr. Thind and touched different aspects of Punjabi journalism and literary writings. Prof. Ravinder Bhathal and Mr. Manjinder Dhanoa described Punjabi writers as Ambassadors of Punjab on foreign lands. Dr. Jagtar Singh Dhiman said that foreign writers are contributing not only in keeping Punjabi alive but also promoting it. He appreciated Mr. Thind for his deep connection with the promotion of Punjabiat on foreign lands.



Mr. Thind shared that in 2013, there are plans to celebrate the centenary of Punjabi journalism connected with the Ghadhar movement in a big way. He added that Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha started a Punjabi newspaper Ghadhar in 1913 at Sanfransisco. He thanked the literary personalities for the encouragement and cooperation made available to him in his literary and journalistic pursuits.



Mr. N.S.Brar, Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Mr. Jaswant Jafar, Mr. Satish Gulati, Mr. Trailochan Lochi, Mr. DPS Khanna, Mr. Pirthi Pal Singh Hayer and Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur Gill also shared their views about the contribution of Punjabi Diaspora. Mr. Thind was honoured on this occasion.
