PAU GOLDEN JUBILEE HOCKEY TOURNAMENT NOVEMBER 2-5, 2012

PAU Golden jubilee day entered into the second day.The first match of the day two was played between Guru Nanak Dev University and Punjabi University Patiala in which Amritsar lads were victorious. Director Students Welfare Dr Davinder Singh Cheema informed that Sukhvir Singh of Punjabi University Patiala converted a short corner in the 36th minute. Guru Nanak Dev University played with lot of aggression after going down by one goal, however, goalkepper, Gurjot Singh, of Punjabi University kept the GNDU team at bay. Guru Nanak Dev University earned a penalty stroke in 42nd minute which was converted by Jaspal Singh. After the equalizer, it was an even contest and both the teams created a lot of chances. Guru Nanak Dev University took lead through a penalty corner conversion by Jagroop Singh and the lead was further consolidated by Gagandeep Singh when he scored a field goal., Mr. A. C. Rana, Comptroller Pau, Ludhiana was chief guest of the match.

Organising Secretary Dr Vishawjeet singh Hans further informed that second match was played between host university and that of Punjab University, Chandigarh.Dr Rajinder Singh Sidhu Dean Basic Sciences College of university were the chief guest of the match Punjab University Chandigarh took lead in the 10th when a penalty corner was converted by Tejbir Singh. Taranjit Singh, the centre forward of PAU team, earned a penalty corner for his team which was converted by Jagpal Singh. The equalizer galvanized PAU team and started playing attacking hockey and took the lead through an indirect conversion of penalty corner by Arjun Singh in 17th minute. Punjab university players playing coordinated hockey and scored an equalizer through beautiful field goal by Kanwaldeep Singh in 26th minute.. However, right out Manjinder Singh of PAU team scored a field goal in the very next minute and gained lead for his team. This lead of PAU team was short-lived as Bhagat Singh converted a penalty corner in the 29th minute to bring Punjab university at par with PAU team. At the end of first half, the score was level at 3-3.

After the breather, Punjab University came out all guns blazing and mounted numerous attacks on the PAU goal but the goalkeeper of PAU, RattanPreet Singh, stood his ground and brought excellent saves to deny the Punjab University team. PAU team slowed down the proceedings to re-organize their game and started retaliating. In the 60th minute PAU team earned their sixth penalty corner which was converted by Jagpal Singh to earn lead for his team. After going down by a goal, Punjab University tried their level best, however, PAU team now smelling victory held on to the lead till end.

Beside large number of spectators Olympian Ramandeep Sigh , Dr. Major Singh Dhaliwal,S Inder Mohan Singh Kadian S Ajaypal singh Punia, H S Bhuller were also present
