HSI FELLOWSHIP FOR TWO PAU HORTICULTURISTS

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 16:



Two senior horticulturists of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) namely, Dr M.I.S Gill and Dr B.V.C Mahajan have been conferred with the fellowship of The Horticultural Society of India (HIS) for the years 2011 and 2012, respectively. The scientists were awarded fellowship during the fifth "Indian Horticultural Congress," jointly organized by the PAU and HSI in the university campus, from November 6-9.



Divulging information, the Head of Fruit Science Department, Dr P.S. Aulakh said that at national level, every year five horticultural scientists are selected for this prestigious fellowship in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field of horticulture. He congratulated both the scientists for bagging this fellowship and exhorted them to continue with their constant efforts in future too.



A senior horticulturist in the Department of Fruit Science of PAU, Dr Gill has worked at University of Nottingham, UK, for a period of one year and has been awarded Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship for doing post-doctorate in the field of horticulture. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) bestowed the "Scroll of Appreciation" upon the scientist for the work done at PAU under All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on sub-tropical fruits. He was honoured during 20th Group Workers, meeting, held at Periyakulam, Tamil Nadu.



Dr Mahajan is working as senior horticulturist at Punjab Horticultural Post-Harvest Technology Centre (PHPTC), PAU. Earlier, he has been awarded Dr J.C. Anand Gold Medal by the HSI for his outstanding work in the field of post-harvest technology.
