LUDHIANA, OCTOBER 20:
The second day of the "Golden Jubilee Inter-College Youth Festival" of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), was marked by literary and fine arts competitions. Various events such as poster making, debate, clay modeling and poetic recitation/haas rass were organized today in which the students unleashed their talent, recited their thoughts and debated hotly on the topic, "FDI in retail is an opportunity to leap onto the next level of prosperity."
The Chief Guest of the morning session, Dr J.S. Mahal, Estate Officer-cum-Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bio-energy), said that the youth festival provides a platform to the budding talents to exhibit their creative skills and keeps them full of vitality and dynamism. Saying that the youth are the future and strength of the nation, he exhorted them to come forward and shoulder responsibilities in life. Dr Mahal commended the brilliant performance of the students in a vast array of items, and distributed the prizes to the winning students of different competitions.
Presiding over the evening session, Dr PPS Lubana, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, PAU, said that the co-curricular activities are vital of education system, as they help in all round development of the students. Youth fest aims at encouraging the students to perform and gain knowledge of various fields, remarked he, while asking the generation Y to uphold their moral ethics and values. Giving away the prizes to the winners, he wished the students good luck in future.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries and the participants, the Director of Students' Welfare, Dr D.S. Cheema, said that youth fests are essential for personality development and promotion of cultural heritage.
The Welfare Officer, Mr. Satvir Singh informed that the photography, on-spot painting, extempore/elocution and rangoli competitions will be held on October 21.

Cartooning (Friday) - First – Aatma Singh (College of Home Science - COHS), Second- Kripa Seth – (COHS) and Third – Subhash SP (College of Basic Sciences and Humanities- COBS&H)
Debate- First – COBS&H team (Subhash and Aakanksha), Second- COHS team (Ankita and Navneet Kaur Sodhi) and Third – team of College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology -COAE&T (Sushant Mehan and Gurleen Kaur)
Best debater for the motion - Karaminderbir Kaur (College of Agriculture- COA)
Best debater against the motion- Aakanksha (COBS&H)
Poster Making – First – Aatma Singh (COHS), Second- Dharinder Mahey (COAE&T) and Third –Ritu Raj (COA)
