NSS volunteers donated blood and planted saplings

A blood donation camp on the occasion of social justice day (25th September 2012) was organized by NSS wing of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Dr Naved Aslam, Seior Cardiologist of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana inaugurated blood donation camp by lighting the lamp on this special occasion organized by the National Service Scheme in association with Dayanand Medical College & Hospital & Lions Club, Ludhiana at Silver Jubilee Block. During inaugural function, Dr Syed Shabih Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator welcomed the gathering and dignitaries and motivated GADVASU students/NSS volunteers on blood donation and delivered talk on Morality behind blood donation in respect of social justice. Dr Hassan focused the requirement of blood in the city of Ludhiana and Punjab state is quite increasing day by day and patient in different Govt. medical colleges & hospitals and private hospital/clinics die due to want off similar blood group and its cells during urgent requirement. Chief guest Dr Naved Aslam, Senior Cardiologist addressed the gathering and motivated students on the topic "First Aid Knowledge and blood donation" on the occasion of social justice day. Dr Naved informed on the objectives of donating blood and morality behind blood donation as also the benefits to both the donor and the beneficiary. He also said that during many situations patients need blood transfusion and blood donation. He also delivered example of his first blood donation when he was graduate student. Dr R. S. Aulakh, Professor, School of Public Health, emphasized the development of blood donation deeds amongst youth and urged graduate students/volunteers to take part in such type of noble activities. Shri K. S. Sethi of Lions Club encouraged NSS volunteers of GADVASU for blood donation. A total of thirty one (31) units of blood were donated by the students/NSS volunteers/NSS officer/club member.

During afternoon session NSS volunteers/students of GADVASU made environment awareness campaign in the university campus and conducted plantation drive. Students/NSS volunteers of three colleges of GADVASU participated in the cleanliness and plantation drive campaign in PAU Senior Secondary School, PAU Campus, Ludhiana. 85 NSS volunteers/students participated in plantation drive in afternoon session in PAU Senior Secondary School and made school students and staffs aware & conscious about cleanliness, tree plantation and beautification of PAU School campus. NSS volunteers Chandni, Double Chandni, Lemon, Jamun, various ornamental & useful plants. Ramniq Kaur and Incharge Eco-Club of PAU School gave warm welcome and complimented Dr. Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator. They also addressed NSS volunteers/students, encouraged plantation drive and provided space for plantation in PAU Senior Secondary School.
