Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu have expressed grief at the death of the former Editor of The Hindu, G. Kasturi.

In a condolence message, Mr. Narasimhan said Mr. Kasturi served as editor of the newspaper for long with great distinction, shaping its values and outlook. He was known for his erudition and scholarship and was truly a giant, and his passing away marked the end of an epoch.

Mr. Reddy said Mr. Kasturi was a doyen among editors in the post-independent India and the longest serving editor of The Hindu. In his death, the Indian newspaper industry lost a veteran editor. Mr. Kasturi had played a great role in the rapid expansion, innovative modernisation and growth of The Hindu. For Mr. Kasturi, The Hindu was his life.

Mr. Naidu said Mr. Kasturi's death was an irreparable loss to journalism. The veteran journalist, who successfully steered the newspaper for 25 years, gave a new direction to journalism with his forthrightness, impartiality and in-depth analysis.
