PAU INKS MoU WITH HAU FOR ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar, recently, to facilitate exchange of Ph.D students.



Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU and Dr Krishan Singh Khokhar, Vice-Chancellor, CCSHAU, singed the MoU on behalf of the respective universities. Dr Gursharan Singh, Dean, Postgraduate Studies (PGS) and Dr D.S. Cheema, Dean, College of Agriculture, PAU, were also present during the MoU signing ceremony.



In his remarks, Dr Dhillon said that PAU aims at achieving excellence in research, academics and technology transfer programmes, in agriculture and its allied fields, by imparting quality education, generating self-employment opportunities for the educated youth, developing effective mechanism for technology transfer and undertaking basic, applied and adaptive research for seeking apt solutions to the emerging agrarian issues. He told that under this cooperative venture, the Ph.D. students of PAU, admitted in the academic year 2012-13, in the disciplines of agronomy, entomology, microbiology, soil science or any other, will study courses for the first semester of Ph.D programme at CCSHAU. A sandwitch programme for doctorate in agricultural engineering will be introduced for in-service teachers of CCSHAU, for which the course work will be done at PAU and the research work at CCSHAU, said he, adding that a co-major advisor will be selected from among the faculty of PAU College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology. Dr Dhillon stated that the collaboration between the two will broaden the horizons of the youths as well as faculty, thus, paving way for their future progress and success.



The inked MoU will remain in force for five years. The equivalence of courses and their contents, to be offered in the selected disciplines of both the universities, will be determined by the heads of the departments of both the institutes and subsequently, be approved by the respective Deans of PGS, says the MoU. The international students and those admitted as Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) nominees in the Ph.D programme at PAU and CCSHAU will also be given option to study for a semester at the respective universities. Dr Khokhar said that PAU and CCSHAU will jointly decide the area of research for the benefit of the framing community. He remarked that CCSHAU is keen to collaborate with PAU to develop competitive human resource and cost-effective efficient technologies.



Dr Singh highlighted that PAU is committed to forge ties with farm institutes/universities, across the country and globe, for developing quality manpower and research collaborations.
