GADVASU conducts Oath Taking Ceremony for passing out Veterinarians

Ludhiana. -01, 2012

The College of Veterinary Science of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana celebrated the Oath Taking Ceremony of 53 passing out veterinarians of 2007 batch. Out of 53 passing out students, 14 were girls.

The ceremony commenced with the brief overview given by the representatives of Intas Pharmaceuticals. Dr V K Taneja, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr G S Dhaliwal, Professor & Head, Department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. Dr H S Sandhu, Dean, College of Veterinary Science administered the Veterinarian's Oath to the passing out graduates and spoke about the achievements of students who brought laurels to the University in the field of academics, sports, and extra-curricular activities. He highlighted the importance of livestock in nation's economy as well as welfare of farmers, Dr H S Sandhu, appealed the students to be passionate for animals welfare and to follow ethics of the profession. Speaking on the occasion, Dr V K Taneja wished good luck to the passing out students for their future life and career. He highlighted the importance of teacher student relations in the academic curriculum and asked interns to give their feedback so that quality of the education and training could be improved in future. He exhorted the students to work hard and face bravely the challenges before them and to achieve excellence in their professional life. He urged them to serve the society especially the poor farmers in the rural sector. He also conveyed that veterinarians should also give importance to livestock production and extension apart from providing healthcare facilities. He said different career opportunities are available now a days for the veterinarians besides working as a veterinary officer in the State Government. Dr Taneja also highlighted the importance of higher education and advised that some student must go for specialization in various disciplines. He also revealed the new challenges to vets in respect of disease outbreaks in livestock and pet and threats to public health posed by some zoonotic diseases. He said that a lot of efforts are required in the field of research, training, teaching and field related problems. He also emphasized upon the nobility of profession and the increasing importance of the role of veterinarians.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr P D Juyal, Registrar of the University congratulated the students advised to work honestly with dedication to achieve all the success in their future life.

Ms Karanpreet Kaur, students' representative shared her past experience on behalf of all the passing outs. Dr Rajsukhbir Singh, proposed the Vote of Thanks. Dr R S Sahota, Director of Extension Education, Dr S P S Sangha, Director Students Welfare cum Estate Officer, Dr R S Brar, University Librarian and Heads of various departments and a large number of faculty members also attended the function.
