15-DAY NSO COACHING CAMP CONCLUDES AT PAU

LUDHIANA, JULY 18:-----



A 15-day "Annual National Sports Organization (NSO) Coaching Camp," organized for the students of B.Sc Agri. (Hons.), B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) and B.Sc (Home Science) enrolled under NSO programme during the academic year 2011-12, concluded here today. Nearly 145 NSO trainees including 45 girls participated in various games viz. handball, lawn tennis, swimming, badminton, basketball, football, cricket, hockey, athletics, table tennis, volleyball, kabbadi and weight lifting. The trainees were imparted skills in their respective games by the physical education staff/coaches of PAU and Sports Authority of India (SAI).



During the camp, a cultural evening was organized for the trainees where the students presented on various cultural items. The PAU Registrar, Dr R.K. Mahey, who was the chief guest, exhorted the students to inculcate confidence, uphold moral values and make a mark in life by excelling in all fields.



In the concluding ceremony, the Director of Students' Welfare, Dr D.S. Cheema laid emphasis on discipline, sincerity, punctuality and fitness and said that the same were vital for excelling in sports as well as in academics. He advised the trainees to continue with their regular practice in sports and games. All Deans and Sports Presidents of various games were present on this occasion.



Dr Sarabjit Singh, PAU Associate Professor of Journalism and Ms. Guneet Chahal, delivered lectures on "Drug free personality," and "Personality development" respectively. Dr S.S. Hundal, Professor of Zoology and President of Speaker's Forum, hosted a sports quiz competition in which the students displayed their ingenuity.
