PARSAR BHARTI AND PAU SYNERGY CAN EFFECTIVELY PUT FARMING ON SCIENTIFIC LINES: OM GAURI DUTT

LUDHIANA, MAY 23:-----

During his first visit to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), the new Director of Parsar Bharti (Doordarshan Kendra), Jalandhar, Mr. Om Gauri Dutt Sharma said that PAU and Parsar Bharti are co-travelers in the direction of transferring scientific knowledge about farming to growers. Together, they can effectively put farming on scientific lines, said he. While interacting with the PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon and other officers of the University, Mr. Sharma said that Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar will join PAU in the dissemination of its technologies to farmers during the Golden Jubilee Year of the PAU. Dr. Dhillon, while welcoming Mr. Sharma to the University said that there are many areas in which Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar could work together with the Communication Centre of PAU. He said that the University can have a better outreach to the farming community through agricultural documentaries, interviews with experts and educating farmers about tackling the emerging issues in agriculture. Mr. Sharma said that his endeavour will be to develop a documentary on PAU and to project the education, research and technology transfer activities of the University, he being an alumnus of PAU. Dr. Dhillon said that Doordarshan is playing an effective role in projecting the richness of Punjabi culture, heritage and way of life to the masses. Mr. Sharma had been directing/producing agricultural programmes such as Mera Pind Mere Khet, Saavi Dharti, etc. Dr. Dhillon presented Mr. Sharma with a Golden Jubilee memento of PAU and floral bouquet.



On this occasion, Dr. Dhillon released a newly published Punjabi translation of the book \'Out of Ashes\' by the former Vice Chancellor, Dr. M.S.Randhawa. The book edited and translated by Davi Devinder Kaur and Dr. Jagdish Kaur presents an account of the rehabilitation of refugees from west Pakistan to villages of eastern Punjab. He congratulated the authors for the translation and wished that the readers will know about the historical facts about rehabilitation of people following partition of the country.



Present on the occasion were, Registrar, Dr. R.K.Mahey, Comptroller, Mr. A.C.Rana, Dean, College of Basic Sciences, Dr. R.S.Sidhu and Dean, College of Home Science, Dr. Neelam Grewal, who offered their best wishes to Mr. Sharma for his new assignment at Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar. Mr. Gurbhajan Gill of Centre for Communication and International Linkages introduced about Mr. Sharma.
