Jagan remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody

After being produced before the special CBI court here on Monday, YSR Congress president Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy was remanded to judicial custody till June 11 for 14 days

Earlier the YSR Congress president Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy was produced before the special CBI court here on Monday, a day after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday



The Principal Judge for CBI Court A. Pullaiah, however, dismissed the plea for CBI's custody of Mr. Jagan for further interrogation. The YSR Cong president was arrested by CBI ion Sunday evening in the disproportionate assets case.



Judge Pullaiah in his order said: "It is quite clear that the accused has stature and position to influence the witnesses and to tamper with evidences. He needs to be sent to judicial remand under section 309 of CrPC." The Kadapa MP would be shifted to Chanchalguda jail after the court formalities are completed.



Earlier, Mr.Jagan spoke for few minutes in the courthall. Addressing the judge, he said: "I do not know why these cases have been booked against me and why I was arrested. I am leading a political party, which is contesting bye-elections to 18 Assembly and one Lok Sabha constituency and the whole country is looking at these bye-elections."



He further pointed out that the CBI had asked him to appear before it. "I left my campaign and cooperated with them till they arrested me. Whatever questions they have asked I answered. You can see the case diary. You can see the case diary. May be I have not answered in the way, they wanted me to do," he remarked.



Referring to the Sakshi shares, he said each share of Rs. 10 face value was sold at Rs. 350. "Has Sakshi no value at all," he asked. He noted that Sakshi was the eight largest circulated daily in the country.
