ISRAELI FARM TECHNOLOGY HAS RELEVANCE TO PUNJAB AGRICULTURE: PANGLI

LUDHIANA, MAY 25:-----



New innovations in farm techniques, especially for conserving fertilizers and water, developed in Israel have been recognized almost everywhere, said Mr. Pavittar Pal Singh Pangli, President PAU Kisan Club, after returning from an educational tour to Israel. He led a farmers group of ten members of PKC to Tel Aviv, Israel that participated in 18th agri-tech event there, organized by Israeli Extension Education Service.



Sharing his experience, Mr. Pangli said that in view of less rain (120 mm in winter months) received in Israel, their focus remained on developing fertigation and water management technologies for different crops including cantaloupes, tomato, cucumbers, leafy vegetables, etc. Highlighting the new methods of using wheat silage for dairy, cow dung based permanent bedding in dairy, use of mini-sized tensiometers (8-16\") in vegetable crops, etc., Mr. Pangli said that scientifically advanced technologies of gathering useful data on milch animals with the help of computerized micro-chip, orchard canopy management by providing designer sunlight penetration windows, providing ground covers with ornamental blooming shrubs of varied hues, etc. have relevance to Punjab agriculture. Pangli said that he will submit a feedback note to the Director of Research, PAU for considering research on similar lines. Unlike in Punjab, cooperative farming system is working well in Israel, he said adding that, the group visited the world\'s largest cooperative farming system at Kibbutz, Israel. Besides, educational farming related activities, the group visited places of historical and social significance.
