World Veterinary Day- Free Antirabies vaccination and Deworming Camp

Ludhiana 27- Apr, 2012

World Veterinary Day is celebrated all over the world on the last Saturday of April every year. Keeping the tradition alive, the College of Veterinary Sciences, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University is going to celebrate the day this year also on April 28, 2012.

As most of the pet owners are aware of a dreadful disease "Rabies", a killer viral disease that is mainly transmitted to humans through bite of rabid dogs, monkeys, mongoose etc. It is estimated that 36% (20,000) of the world's rabies deaths (55,000) occur in India each year. In majority of the cases children are involved when they come into contact with infected dogs. It is a vaccine-preventable disease and vaccinating the animals reduces the incidence of the disease, eliminates suffering and avoids recourse to mass culling while also saves human lives.

Although nearly all dogs are infested with parasites at one time or another, most develop an immunity that keeps the parasite population in check. This immunity can break down, however, under conditions of stress or ill health. When it happens, the worms increase in number and eventually produce signs of intestinal infection, including diarrhoea, weight loss, anaemia, and blood in the faeces. Some of these parasites are capable of infecting human beings also. This problem can be easily tacked by regularly deworming your pet.

To make the pet owners aware of these two dangerous problems, a free antirabies vaccination and deworming camp for all will be organised on 28.4.2012 at the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, GADVASU to mark the World Veterinary Day celebrations.
