The monthly training camp for the members of the Punjab Agricultural
University (PAU) Kisan Club including ladies wing will be held on May
3 at Dr Boralug Wheat Auditorium and Kairon Kisan Ghar of the PAU,
respectively.
Divulging details, Dr M.S. Gill, Director of Extension Education-cum-
Programme Director, said that the experts will dwell upon the solar
heat treatment for wheat storage and turmeric processing, raising of
mat type nursery, role of phosphate in soil health and different
schemes of Agricultural Department of Punjab. The participants will
also be updated about the activities of the club, he told, adding that
a progressive farmer will share his experience of Ethiopian
agriculture. During the camp, Dr B.S. Chahal, Chief Agriculture
Officer, Ludhiana, M.S. Grewal, Progressive farmer, Dr Arun Jain,
Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation, PPS Pangli, President of the Club
and the PAU scientists including Dr Tarsem Chand of Department of
Processing and Food Engineering and Er. Gursahib Singh of Department
of farm Machinery and Power Engineering will deliver lectures and give
demonstrations, touching various aspects of agriculture, he said.
Dr Gill said that the ladies wing of the club will be equipped with
theoretical as well as practical knowledge about the preparation of
puddings and the value addition to milk, especially preparation of
yogurt. A close interaction with the club members will take place in
addition to the planning of activities for next month. Dr Gill
informed that the registration for both the camps will be held at 9.30
a.m. at the slated venue.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pangli shared that in the executive meeting of the
Club, the Rice Exporters Association was called upon to predict
month-wise basic price trends of non-scented basmati. He said that
market forces are not fully aware of varieties of basmati which are in
demand in China and Vietnam. He appealed to the Punjab farmers to
study the price trend of basmati variety "Pusa-1121" near the sowing
season. Urging the rice exporters to fund research projects of
Agricultural Universities for future growth of export oriented rice
and basmati markets, he said that Third World Countries can easily
feed Second World Nations in Asia and Africa. Mr Pangli also urged the
state mega units to contribute generously to the on-going research
projects at PAU for increasing the food production and the development
of national agriculture.
