GADVASU Organizes Dairy and Fisheries Officers Workshop

Ludhiana, 23, April -2012

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized a one day workshop for Dairy and Fisheries Officers of the State, today on April 23, 2012. Sh Jagpal Singh Sandhu,IAS Financial commissioner, Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries was the chief guest and Dr VK Taneja, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU presided over the function. During his inaugural address Mr Sandhu revealed the appreciating role of livestock sector in food security, employment generation, asset creation, financial security and as coping mechanism against crop failure. He further said that Punjab govt. is doing its best to uplift this sector further and every required support will be provided to GADVASU for meeting the challenges. Dr Taneja in his presidential remarks said that this workshop was held with the objective to create an interface for exchange of knowledge, ideas and challenges to develop mutual dialogue between university scientists and field officers those were working at grass root level. Dr Taneja further emphasized the need of strengthening of veterinary extension, which is back bone component to disseminate the scientific technologies to the farmers which are the end users. On this occasion, Dr BS Sidhu, Managing Director, Milkfed was also present and he revealed that all the concerned departments i.e dairy, animal husbandry, milkfed were have the common goal to uplift the livestock sector and they have do perform their role is collective manner so that every livestock farmer can be looked after at his door step . Sh Inderjeet Singh, Director, Dairy Development, and Sh B K Sood, Director and Warden Fisheries were also present and they highlighted their department's role in livestock sector development and chaired their respective sessions held after the inaugural session

Dr R S Sahota, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU welcomed the delegates and highlighted the university's extension programmes. Dr SNS Randhawa, Director Research, GADVASU highlighted the research programmes being carried out at university. Dr H S Sandhu, Dean College of Veterinary Science, DR SS Sangha, Dean College of Dairy Science GADVASU were also there to grace the occasion.

Dr HK Verma, Head, Veterinary Extension Proposed the vote of thanks and informed that different technical sessions were held to update the knowledge of officers of the dairy and fisheries departments. At last a joint plenary session was conducted for working out the recommendations which will be helpful in planning the future strategies in livestock sector of the state. He further said that a total of 182 delegates from all over the Punjab attended the workshop
