The rupee today depreciated by 15 paise to 50.54 against the US dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in early trade, following increased demand for the American currency from importers.
Dealers said apart from dollar gains against the euro, increased demand for the American currency from importers mainly weighed on the rupee sentiment.
The rupee had lost 16 paise to close at a two-month low of 50.39/40 against the dollar yesterday.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex rose by 45.89 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 17,362.07 in early trade.
