The members of the district unit of the CPI who were on 24 hours hunger strike against rise in prices of essential commodities, unemployment and for an effective Lok Pal Bill in the winter session of Parliament ended their 24 hours hunger strike here on 22nd October 2011 at Mini Secretariat with a rally demanding immediate steps to check the rise in price. Addressing the rally Com Kartar Singh Bowani – district secretary said that the 24 hours hunger strike is a reflection of what the poor people have to pass through in their day to day life without a balanced diet what to talk of proper housing, schooling and health care but on the other side the rich are enjoying huge subsidies in the name of development and. Nexus between a few politicians, bureaucrats and criminals has worsened the situation. Dr Arun Mitra - Asstt. Secretary said that there is need to check corruption at higher places and for that an effective Lok Pal Bill which is pending for a long time be presented in the winter session of Parliament. Com O P Mehta- City Secretary said that the struggle will be intensified in future. Com D P Maur- General Secretary Joint council of Trade Unions said that working class is the biggest sufferer. The central trade unions will hold Jail Bharo on 8th November on these issues. Others who addressed include Com Gurnam Sidhu, Avtar Gill, Gulzar Goria and Ramesh Rattan.
