Amar Singh discharged from AIIMS

New Delhi, October 31, 2011(Tehelkanews)

Nearly a week after he was granted bail by the Delhi High Court in the cash-for-votes case on "humanitarian grounds," Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh was discharged from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here.

Mr. Singh was admitted to the hospital six days after his arrest on September 6 by the Delhi Police Crime Branch for his alleged role in the cash-for-votes scam.

The hospital authorities told the court that he suffered from complications related to kidney transplant, diarrhoea, urinary tract infection, diabetes, dehydration and hypothyroid hypertension. A report from the AIIMS\' Nephrology Department stated that his creatinine level was above normal and for a kidney transplant patient, it required hospitalisation. Also, his heart beat rate had exceeded the normal range. Emerging out of the hospital in a wheelchair and accompanied by his close aide and actor-turned politician Jayaprada, Mr. Singh said he would seek permission from the court for treatment in Singapore, where he underwent kidney transplant in 2009.

Mr. Singh said he had developed a urinary tract infection and was yet to recover from it completely. "Doctors have asked me for a medical check-up on November 3, if necessary. My children are also down with viral fever."

Mr. Singh was taken to his Lodhi Estate residence in an ambulance, where he was welcomed by his relatives and supporters.
