A crop produce competition is being organized at PAU Kisan Mela slated for September 22-23. Giving details, Dr Jasbir Singh Chawla, Senior Maize Breeder of PAU and Convener of Produce Competition Committee, informed that besides the competition of recommended and approved varieties of vegetables including okra (bhindi), bitter gourd (karela), chillies, Ram tori, radish, cowpea, arvi, tinda, capsicum (shimla mirch), ghiya kaddu, halwa kaddu, brinjal or any other, the competition of field crops such as maize (cobs) or any other crop, will also be held. Dr Chawla further told that among fruits, the competition of recommended and approved varieties including guava, lime and lemon, malta, grape fruit, papaya or any other fruit will take place whereas among floriculture, samples of rose (loose), marigold, rose (cut), tuberose (rajni gandha), gerbera (cut) or any other flower will be received.
Dr Chawla informed that the samples of the produce will be received at the stall provided for Produce Competition near Kairon Kisan Ghar on September 22 till 12.00 noon. Telling that undersize sample of any produce will be rejected; he said that prizes and certificates will be given to competition winners.
