Poets must work to promote humanism, honesty and social values in the society. This was stated by Surjit Pattar famous poet while giving his address as Chief guest on the occassion of prof Kulwant jagraon memorial Award giving ceremony at Panjabi Bhawan Ludhiana. The Award has been established by the family of Jagroan in his memory and is being awarded by the Panjabi Sahitya Akademi Ludhiana, First Award was presented to young poet Gagan deep Sharma by Dr. S.S. Johl, Dr. Surjit Pattar, Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill and others. While paying his tribute to Kulwant Dr. S.S. Johl described him as a poet of masses who wrote for the protection of human rights. He further stated that when Kulwant was struggling with his life still he was cheerful and was writing progressive poems. Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill Presedent of the Akademi welcomed the participants and described Prof Kulwant as a symbol of humality. He was a great poet and a friend of friends. Programme was conducted by Dr. Sukhdev Singh, General Secretary of the Panjabi Sahitya Akademi, Ludhiana. Dr. Gulzar Pandhar read the paper on the poetry of prof Kulwant Jagraon and Dr. Charandeep Singh spoke about the work of Gagan deep Sharma . Prominent personalities present of this include Harjit Attwal, Prem Singh Bajaj, Dr. Saroop Singh Alag, Dr. Ranjit Singh, Swaran Singh Parwana, Surinder Kailay, Janmeja Singh johl, Ravinder Bhattal, Surinder Rampuri, Shah Chaman, N.S. Nanda, Ram Singh, Dr. S.S. Dosanjh & family members of Jagraon family Shri Kuljeet Jagraon, Navjot Singh, Navkiran Kaur, Jaswant Kaur, Bhagwant Kaur, Mrs Veeran, Mrs Mohinder Kaur Jagraon and Local members of Akademi.
