Satish Chander Dhawan Government College Ludhiana in its drive to enhance the skill of the students to make them fit for employment opportunities , achieved a major victory when many of the students of this college specially belonging to commerce and arts were picked up by the major industrial houses of the state for training and development. Recently a skill development programme named "Operation Genesis" was launched by the college with the help of Infosys Mohali which provides extensive training to more than 100 students of the college with respect to language proficiency, analytical skills and computing skills. Principal of the College Mrs Jasbir Kaur Makkar told that , the Infosys first arranged an in-house training of two teachers of the college namely Mrs Nishi Arora (Assistant Professor in English) and Mrs Neelam Soni (Associate Professor in History ) at its Mohali Campus and provided them extensive training to train the students under its Train the trainer Programme. These two teachers in turn provided at least 40 days extensive training to the students to upgrade their skills. The Operation Genesis is run under the supervision of the Infosys trainers and placement drive was also organized at the conclusion of the programme which has short listed the candidates for final selection after their completion of degrees. Another miles stone was achieved by the college when 39 students of the College belonging to the B.Com –III was picked up by the Vardhman Training and Development Centre for five weeks "Capability Enhancement Training Programme". Mrs Jasbir Kaur Makkar , Principal of the College told that this training programme will start from from 2nd May, 2011 and conclude on 3rd June, 2011. The students selected for this programme belong to socially underprivileged section of the society belonging to SC/ST , Backward Classes and Other Back Ward Classes and Below poverty line segment of the society. In this programme students will be totally free training which include expenditure on meals, lodging, boarding, books and stationary and successful students shall also be paid an allowance @ 55 per day for the duration of the programme. The programme will conclude with Placement drive by the vardhman. Last year 49 students of the college were trained and got the placements in various companies ranging the pay from 6500-12000 p.m . Two of the students were selected in Army and got the initial pay of Rs. 16000 p.m . Seven Outsanding students were retained by the Vardhman Group said Dr. Ashwani Bhalla, Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce, who is associated with Capability Enhancement Programme of the Vardhman Group .
