A six-member delegation from Moscow State University of Environmental Engineering (MSUEE), Moscow comprising of Dr. Lev Ratkovich, Chair, Department of Integrated Water management, Ms Natallia Feshchanka, Associate Director, International Program Office and four students namely, Ms Faina Biriukova, Ms Tatiana Deeva, Ms Irina Kolbasova and Ms Alinna Nor is on a visit to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) upto March 17. The group met Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU and held interaction on wide ranging academic concerns. Those who participated in the interactive meeting included, the Registrar, Dr. R.K.Mahey, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Gursharan Singh, Director of Research, Dr. S.S.Gosal, Additional Director of Communication, Dr. Jagtar Singh Dhiman.

Dr. Kang while welcoming the delegation said that Indo-Russian friendship is very old. He said that PAU has been receiving students and faculty from MSUEE and Moscow State University of Agro Engineering under the signed memorandum of understanding. The groups from PAU has also visited the Russian Universities on number of occasions. The exchange of students and faculty provides them an opportunity to know their institute, culture and agriculture, he said. Dr. Kang shared his experiences of visiting Russia and seeing the water treatment plants there.

Dr. Ratkovich, while conveying the greetings and message of the MSUEE Vice-Chancellor and Dr. Andrew Sorokin said that the relationship between the two universities is proving mutually beneficial and wished to seed it grow further laying focus on new programmes including the areas of integrated water use, study on river flow, hydro power unit designs, water use systems, hydraulic models and educational programmes on engineering and environment.

Ms Feshchanka delved on the impact of global students programmes adding that under the prevailing system of students exchange between PAU and MSUEE, the students training requirements for their diploma awards is fulfilled. She said that the MSUEE has international programmes with several countries including United States, Egypt, France, etc. and that it was a matter of great satisfaction that the students have developed a strong preference to visit PAU.

Dr. P.P.S.Lubana, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COA&T) said that the Russian delegation will be shown around various PAU landmarks including different departments of COA&T, farm machinery manufacturing units, museum of water resources in Northern India, Museum of social history of Punjab, Punjab horticulture postharvest technology center, etc. for which a programme has been worked out. Dr. S. K. Gupta and Dr. V. Bector said that the visitors will participate in expert lectures on water and sewerage treatment plants, biogas production and farm mechanization to be delivered by PAU experts. The group will also visit Adani Agri Logistic Ltd., Moga, Field Fresh, Ludhiana, Precision farming lab, etc. To provide the group about the culture and heritage of Punjab, an educational excursion will be organized wherein they will visit Bhakhra Dam, Golden

Temple, Taj Mahal, etc.
