Inspired by the wave of pro-democracy protests around the region, Daraa residents have held protests since last week.
An activist says some residents of the southern city of Daraa are holding a sit—in to protest the killing of more than a dozen people.
The activist, who is in contact with residents in the city of Daraa, says the situation is still tense, with a heavy armed presence in the streets. He said on Thursday that dozens of people were holding the sit—in in the al—Mahata neighbourhood near the city centre.
Inspired by the wave of pro—democracy protests around the region, Daraa residents have held protests since last week.
On Wednesday, Syrian police launched an assault on a neighbourhood sheltering anti—government protesters leaving 15 people dead. It was the deadliest day since protests began.
