PAU SCHOOL OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ADJUDGED AS TOP INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND COMPUTER SCIENCE INSTITUTION

LUDHIANA, MARCH 15:--------



The School of Information Technology (SIT) at College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAE&T), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been bestowed with Academy Award 2010 for the emerging Information Technology (IT) & Computer Science Institution (CSI) by the Research Wing for Excellence in Professional Education of Education Expo (TV).



Dr O.P.Gupta, Deputy Director, SIT, informed that out of 413 nominations, 42 institutions were short listed and finally 15 Institutions won academic awards for nomination categories. In recognition of its outstanding performance in IT Education, SIT has been adjudged as the top emerging IT and CS Institution for 2010, added he.



Congratulating SIT and the university scientists, PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Manjit Singh Kang, said that just on the heels of being adjudged as 'Best Farm Varsity 2011' of India, PAU has bagged another prestigious honour. Winning of the Academy Award 2010 is a landmark achievement and a matter of national pride for PAU. Dr Kang remarked that SIT aims to empower farmers to take informed and quality decisions which will have positive impact on agriculture and days are not far when IT initiative at PAU will reach the Punjab farmers. Developed with a vision to have world class agricultural informatics at PAU and bridge the digital divide, the major focus is to bring farmers, researchers, scientists and administrators together by establishing "Agriculture Online" through exchange of ideas and information, said he.



Dr SS Gosal, Director of Research, PAU, said that SIT has brought laurels to PAU by clinching this award. He revealed that SIT has also bagged third position in e-India 2010 for the e-Learning Initiative. It provides professional computer education to agriculture undergraduates to achieve the agricultural informatics and make available connectivity and access to information through internet to the farmers.



Dr PPS Lubana, Dean, COAE&T, extending his greetings, said that SIT has started web portals for e-governance in different domains of PAU administration and communication. IBM also conferred on PAU the Centre of Excellence in software for the year 2009-10, disclosed he. Dr Lubana added that MCA programme, started in year 2009-10, is in great demand among the students and the new Wi-Fi campus is on the anvil.
