Dr Premjit Singh, Senior Plant Pathologist, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, PAU, has been awarded Indian Society of Ornamental Horticulture (ISOH) Fellowship, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of pathology of ornamental crops. Associated with All India Coordinated Research Project on Floriculture since April, 1990, Dr Singh has done commendable work on diseases of roses, gladiolus, chrysanthemum, carnation, marigold, gerbera and tuberose. His work resulted in several recommendations pertaining to management of Botrytis bight of gladiolus, Alternaria blight of marigold and Septoria leaf spot of chrysanthemum. Dr Singh has published 2 technical bulletins, 1 manual, 50 research papers, 3 book chapters, 38 abstracts, 15 popular articles and has handled two ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) – funded ad-hoc projects.
Besides playing a key role in evaluation and release of four chrysanthemum varieties and seven varieties/hybrids of gladiolus, Dr Singh has standardized chemicals for enhancing vase life of cut roses. Having an experience of 24 years of working on diseases of ornamental and other crops, he has provided disease diagnostic service to flower growers of Punjab from time to time and has worked on several new molecules of fungicides. Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, Dr. S.S.Gosal, Director of Research and Dr. Kushal Singh, Head of the Department have congratulated Dr. Singh for the award.
