PAU ALERTS THE FARMERS ABOUT WHEAT YELLOW RUST

LUDHIANA, MARCH 1:

The recent survey conducted by PAU Plant Pathologists revealed that the yellow rust disease has started appearing in the sub-mountainous areas of Ropar, Hoshiarpur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Gurdaspur districts. Elaborating further, the head of the Department of Plant Pathology, Dr T.S.Thind said that due to the rainfall received in the recent days and changing weather, the conditions are becoming favourable for the spread of the disease. If not controlled, the disease can adversely affect yield performance of wheat, said he.

Advising the farmers, the PAU experts asked them to inspect the crop at regular intervals. The disease results in the formation of yellow stripes on leaves. In case the symptoms of yellow rust disease are noticed on the crop, one should go for spot application of the recommended fungicides i.e., Tilt , Shine or Bumper, using 200 ml of the fungicide in one litre of water per acre immediately to check the further spread of this disease, stressed the PAU scientists. They suggested the farmers that for the spray application, always make use of cone-shaped nozzle.

For further queries or technical guidance, the farmers can contact the experts of the Department of Plant Pathology at 0161-2401960, Extn 319 or Mobile no. 98144-03956 and 98727–33111.
