The second day of national exhibition –cum-training workshop of 'Plant and machinery for horticulture, vegetable and floriculture' at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) saw the field demonstrations of various technologies useful for the cultivation of the horticulture and vegetable crops. The programme has been organized by PAU in collaboration with the National Horticulture Board (NHB), Gurgaon, under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education.
Farmers from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and other North-East states were imparted hands on training in floriculture and processing of agriculture produce, crafting technology for horticultural crops, nursery raising technology, and medicinal crops. Demonstrations were given on the use of machinery for horticulture, vegetable and floriculture with the thrust on the tractor operated pick positioner for pruning and harvesting of fruit crop and tall trees, the tractor operated and engine operated power weeder, root crop harvester for harvesting of carrot, onion, garlic, potato, and turnip, ginger, turmeric, etc., crop sprayer and aeroblast sprayer for orchard crops, manually operated seed extracting machine for chillies and tomatoes, drip irrigation and green house technology for tomato, capsicum, and other off season vegetables. To enhance the production of horticultural crops and popularize the machinery used for the same, the university experts of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Soil and Water Engineering, Processing and Food Engineering, Agronomy, Horticulture, Vegetable Crops and Floriculture and Landscaping imparted training to the farmers at seven different spots of PAU.
