THE NATION OWES A GREAT TO THE MARTYRS WHO MADE SACRIFICES FOR FREEDOM: DR KANG

LUDHIANA, MARCH 25:



To commemorate the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his associates Rajguru and Sukhdev, the Young Writers Association organized a function at the campus under the aegis of Directorate of Students' Welfare, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Paying rich tributes to the three martyrs, the chief guest Dr Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, said that they sacrificed their lives not only for the freedom of the country but for man's political, cultural, financial and social freedom also. The writings of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his associates indicate that they were not only the men carrying weapons but for the general well being of humanity. Mentioning that the books were the constant companion of the freedom fighters, Dr Kang exhorted the youth that along with studying academic books, they should acquaint themselves with Punjabi, Hindi and English literature also.



Dr Kang informed that the auditorium of the Students' Home would be named as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Auditorium and reading halls as Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev Halls. The portraits of the three great martyrs will be displayed in the Students Home, he said.



Welcoming the chief guest, dignitaries and the participants, Gurbhajan Gill, teacher in charge of Young Writers' Association, said that by organizing this function, PAU has maintained its age-old tradition of agriculture and culture going together. The youth of today is not lagging behind in remembering and recognizing the sacrifices of these martyrs, said he, adding that the day provided an opportunity to familiarize the students of PAU with the families of these revolutionaries.



Earlier, the Convener of Young Writers Association, Jaspreet Singh conducting the proceedings of the event, highlighted the activities of the association. All those present on the occasion joined Dr. Kang in paying floral tributes to the three martyrs.



Present on the occasion were Prof. Ravinder Bhathal, Trailochan Lochi, Dalbir Ludhianvi, Dr Gulzar Pandhar and many other prominent poets who recited poems on the martyrs and patriotism.
