The Department of English organized ‘Great Orations’ and ‘Sales Presentation’ of Govt. College for Women

The Department of English organized 'Great Orations' and 'Sales Presentation' competitions in the college auditorium of Govt. College for Women, Ludhiana here today. The college Principal Mrs. Gurminder Kaur graced the occasion with her presence. She was accorded a warm welcome by Mrs. Kiranjeet Kaur Brar, Head, Department of English.

The participants delivered enlightening speeches of eminent personalities from different walks of life. Their eloquent style was well imitated by the speakers who came attired as Abraham Lincoln, Queen Elizabeth, Mark Antony from William Shakespeare' play 'Julius Caesar', Barrack Obama, Swami Vivekanand, Benajir Bhutto, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and Mahatama Gandhi etc. The contest was jointly won by Avneet Dua and Harguneet who delivered the speeches of Abraham Lincoln and Queen Elizabeth respectively. The second prize was won by Gurleen who dressed as Mark Antony, delivered the speech. The third prize was jointly won by Durga and Medha Syal who imitated the style of Barrack Obama and Swami Vivekanand respectively. The consolation prize was bagged by Komalpreet who presented the speech of Benajir Bhutto.

The theme of another program on 'Sales Presentations' was "Sell what no one can sell" and "Sale of waste products". About five teams actively participated with great fervors and enthusiasm in the competition. It was a magnificent affair and the participants displayed their immense talent in the competition. With the help of audio-visual aids, the sales representatives motivated the audience with their promotional skill in a very systematic and lucid manner. The team comprising Shikha, Chitwan and Gurleen won the first prize for selling pseudo-nails. The first three prizes for making beautiful and innovative projects files were also given to B.Com I, Functional English students. The story and caption contest winners were also given away the prizes. Compeering done by Upneet, the deputy Head Girl of the college added charm to the entire show. Mrs. Harpreet Kaur Gill, Head Department of Economics, Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur, Head Department of Commerce and Mr. Rajiv Kumar Sehgal were the worthy guests of the competition.

Speaking on the occasion, the principal congratulated and appreciated the efforts putt in by the participants and faculty members for this unique concept. Mrs. Harpreet Gill also urged the students to follow the foot steps of great personalities and also advised them to read the biographies of the great personalities. The staff members from various Departments graced the occasion with their presence. Miss Preet Daman proposed the vote of thanks.
