CIPHET displays innovative technologies at NHB Exhibition

Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology today displayed its technologies including that of Evaporative Cooled Room and cocoa based jaggery products at the National Exhibition on Plant Machinery For Horticulture Crops, which is jointly organized by National Horticulture Board and Directorate of Extension Education here at PAU campus.



The technologies of CIPHET, a premier institute of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), pulled heavy crowds. The Institute this time demonstrated EC Room, wherein farmers could increase shelf life of their fruits and vegetables without use of electricity. Cocoa based jaggery products were another attraction.



CIPHET is also displaying both Pomegranate Aril Extractor (PME) hand held and mechanically operated. While hand held PME is useful for separating pomegranate at small scale, mechanically PME is useful for extracting arils at commercial scale. Any size and variety of pomegranate could be processed with extraction capacity of 90 to 94 percent. Mechanical damage to arils is reported as less as 3 to 4 percent during processing Similarly, Banana Cob Cutter is also on the display. This is simple but effective device to separate bananas.



Giving information, O.P Moodan, Technical Officer with CIPHET, said that they got lot many inquires for the training programmes to be conducted by the institute. "Farmers and entrepreneurs are now especially inclined towards food processing sector and are looking as possible alternative for increasing their stagnant income," he added. Dr Tanveer Ahmed, Scientist CIPHET, answered queries of the farmers.



Likewise, Central Institute of Agriculture Engineering (CIAE), Bhopal, also an institute of ICAR, was displaying their innovative technologies. This included groundnut decorticator for women, pedal cum power operated cleaner grader for seeds, newly developed grain flour separator, chips making machine and manual potato peeler etc. "CIPHET and other ICAR institutes have developed number of innovative technologies for increasing the income of farmers and entrepreneurs," said Director Dr R.T Patil and Head Transfer of Technology Division Dr Deepak Raj Rai, adding that anyone interested could contact their institute for comprehensive training.
