Trilingual litterateur passed away

Dr. Ajit Singh Sikka who contributed 47 literary compositions in English, Punjabi and Hindi passed away on 31 January in Ludhiana. After getting his post graduation in Punjabi from Govt. College Ludhiana he did Ph.D in 1970 his dissertation being Philosophy of Mind in the Poetry of Guru Nanak. Before he took up assignment as Lecturer in Punjabi in Khalsa College Sri Ganga Nagar in 1971, he was in the department of Post & Telegraph. Soon after, in 1973 he came over to Sikh National College Banga from where he retired in 1988 as head of department of Punjabi. Post retirement, he went to U.S.A. in 1990 but came back in 1994.

His oeuvre extends to 21 works in English, 18 works in Punjabi and Vani Sheikh Farid in Hindi. His Poetry includes Sing Songs Unto Guru Nanak; Forty Ballads about Guru Gobind Singh;Songs of Pleasures and Pains of Love( 60 songs); Prolonged Lyrical Meditations( 184 Sonnets); Loneliness of A Woman (63 Sonnets); Ophelia of Denmark, An Epic; Odes to Great Sikhs; Songs of Love & Sadness( 50 Songs); First Martyr of Sikh Faith - Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji: AN EPIC ; Invincble Khalsa, An Epic; Sparks and Ashes( 305 Poems); Guru Angad Dev, AN EPIC ; The Complete Poetical Works of Ajit Singh Sikka;Saga of Saragarhi;Lyrics,Songs and Poems(167).

He also wrote six novels in English which include Shakuntala;Kannagi;Janki;Kaushal;Padmani;Robot; besides two biographies ,Biography of Tansen and Biography of Baba Bhagat Singh Nanaksar and three titles in prose ,Facets of Guru Nanak's Thought; Philosophy of Mind in the Poetry of Guru Nanak; Beacons of Light. and a book on literary criticism, Dr. Ajit Singh Sikka( An Analytical Study).

This professor of Punjabi contributed eighteen major works in Punjabi including Motian de thal; Noor di dhara;Science te dharma,Ruhani paras;Sri Guru Gobind Singh darshan; Sri Guru Nanak darshan; Raja Lear; Mera Astitav,Jiwan Baba Bhagat Singh Nanaksar;Guru Amar Das Ji da jiwan te sandesh, Ludhiane da ghanat ghar,Sat Sri Akal.

It is unfortunate that the death of great scholar went almost unnoticed in literary circles. 'Antim Ardaas' for the departed soul is being held at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Model Gram, Ludhiana on Sunday the 6th of February 2011 from 1 PM to2.30 PM
