Seven day training programme on soybean processing begins at CIPHET

Aiming to develop entrepreneurship among farmers, Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology today initiated a 7-day training programe on processing of soybean. Total of seven farmers are participating in the training programme sponsored by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).

Soybean is emerging as best alternative to compensate shortage of cow milk/buffalo," said, Director CIPHET Dr R.T Patil, while addressing the participants taking part in the training programme. "So many health benefits are attached to soyabean. Doctors suggest this to the lactose intolerant patients as they could not take normal milk. Also, this is good for patients of heart diseases, diabetics, women suffering from menopauses and osteoporoses," he said, adding that only thing was that soybean milk and products should be properly processed.

To train and equip the farmers in soybean processing, Dr R.T Patil said that they had specially designed the training programme. "During the training programme farmers would also get hands on experience," he added. Senior Scientist Dr Devinder Dhingra, said that that number of products could be developed from soyabean. Besides soyabean milk, he said that farmers would also be trained in other value-added products including Tofu. Dr Indu Karki, Scientist, Transfer of Technology, Division was also present on the occasion. Dr Deepak Raj Rai, Head Transfer of Technology, Division, said, "CIPHET has development number of technologies in food processing and interested farmers/entrepreneurs can contact transfer of technology division."

The seven-day training would include training on processing and utilization of soybean, processing of soybean into milk, value added products from soybean, practical on soybean milk, materials and equipment for packaging of soy products, technologies for enhancing efficiency of processing equipments, evaluation of adulteration of foods, micro-biological quality evaluation of food products, demonstration of animal feed pilot plant and oil expeller, non-destructive methods foods and technologies developed under All India Coordinated Research Project on post harvest technology.
