Rain lashes some parts of north India; snowfall in J&K

The higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall, while rain lashed some places in the plains of Punjab and Haryana and National Capital Delhi .

A fresh spell of snowfall in Kashmir Valley forced closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway . Authorities issued a medium danger avalanche warning in many parts of the Valley, including in upper reaches of Gulmarg skiing resort. An official of the traffic control room said,continuous rains and snowfall was hampering road clearance operations.

In Himachal Pradesh , tourist resort Manali received 55 cm of snow Solang Nallah and Rohtang Pass received 100 cm and 150 cm of snow, respectively.

The minimum temperature continued to hover a few degrees above normal range in Haryana and Punjab, even as some places like Mohali and Patiala received rain. Light showers were experienced in some parts of the national capital lastnight which brought down the temperature a few notches.

In Kashmir valley, 300 km long Jammu-Srinagar national highway remain still closed for the third consecutive day today due to heavy snowfall at Jawahar Tunnel and landslide at various places on the highway. Inspector General of Police, Traffic, H.K.Lohia told our correspondent that the traffic will remain suspended on the highway untill the weather and road condition improves.
