Inaugurating the book fair, the chief guest Dr Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, pointed out that there is no dearth of knowledge on any subject these days but the only thing is that readers should have enough time to go through the books. He observed that reading habit is on decline as everything is available online. By organizing the book fair, PAU has maintained its glorious tradition and played a constructive role as the fair provides an excellent opportunity to the students, teachers and book lovers to browse the publications of their choice under and find the information one needs for any purpose under one roof. Getting concessions on the prices in the book fairs is an additional advantage, he said.

Referring to the friendly relationship between the reader and the book as unique, Dr (Mrs) Jaswinder Kaur Sangha, Librarian, PAU, said that to create interest amongst the readers to read books on latest topics and issues, it is necessary to acquaint them with the books available in the market. By organizing the book fair, Mohinder Singh Randhawa library has brought the two together. She added that encyclopedias and books on Indian literature, agricultural engineering, biotechnology, nanotechnology, climate change, horticulture, soil management, etc., attracted a large number of readers. She informed that schools, colleges, librarians and other institutions involved in the educational activity can visit the fair to which entry is free. The book fair will be open for the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Participating publishers and book sellers will extend special discount to the students and others, said Dr Sangha.

On this occasion, Dr. Kang and Dr. Subramanian released three publications namely \'Library: a gateway to knowledge\' (Kanwal Narula), \'Mohinder Singh Randhawa Library at a Glance\' and \'Life and loves of Sahir Ludhianvi (authored by Dr. Anoop Singh Sandhu). Dr. Kang congratulated the authors and said that the publications will help the readers to use library more effectively. He said that the book on Sahir Ludhianvi has a biographical account.

Dr. Subramanian appreciated the PAU archives and the hall of fame sections of the library. He said that all agricultural universities should have similar sections.
