PAU TRAINING PROGRAMMES FROM FEBRUARY 21-25

LUDHIANA, FEBRUARY 17:

The PAU Directorate of Extension Education (DEE) is organizing training programmes on 'Fabric, painting and dyeing' and 'Maintenance of flowers and preservation of fruits and vegetables' for the farmers, farm women and rural youth at Kairon Kisan Ghar from February 21-25.

Giving details of the course on 'fabric, painting and dyeing', Dr M.S.Gill, Director of Extension Education, said the training is being organized in collaboration with Department of Clothing and Textiles, PAU. He added that the home scientists would impart practical training in basic sketching and shading of leaves and flowers, painting with blocks -vegetable, sponge, card board, string, cork, jute, painting with stencils, spraying, brushing, sponging, outlining, drawing and practicing of developed designs on paper using poster colour. The experts would hone the skills of the participants by educating them about different techniques of free hand painting on paper and planning and development of designs on the fabric according to design principles, added he. He informed that the technical and course coordinators are Dr (Mrs) H.K. Saggu and Mrs Rupinder Kaur, respectively.

Dr Gill, added that the training on 'maintenance of flowers and preservation of fruit and vegetables,' would provide an opportunity to the trainees to learn about the different varieties of flowers, their maintenance, nursery preparation, diseases and solution for the same. To give practical exposure, the participants would be shown PAU landscaping nursery also, he said. PAU experts would equip the trainees with the necessary skills required for the net-house cultivation of tomato and capsicum and cultivation of peas, garlic, onions, brinjal, chilli and varieties of cauliflower. In order to enhance the knowledge of the trainees, they would be educated about cultivation of different fruit such as pear, mango, lichi, amla, phalsa, etc. The thrust would be on the maintenance and preservation of fruits and vegetables, their diseases and prevention. Dr Gill further informed that the technical coordinators for the course are Dr PS Aulakh, Dr TS Dhillon and S.Ranjit Singh.
