Monthly meeting of Innovative Fish Farmer’s Association, GADVASU

Monthly meetings of Innovative Fish Farmer's Association (IFFA) Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) was held at the fish farm of progressive farmers Mr. Ranjodh Singh Grewal and Mr. Jogi Singh Grewal in Village Nanokey in Nabha. Dr. S.K. Kansal, Co-ordinator of IFFA, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, GADVASU, Dr Meera D. Ansal, Scientist (Fisheries) and Dr. Abhishek Srivastava, Assistant Professor (Fisheries), College of Fisheries, GADVASU coordinated the meeting and the queries of farmers were attended. Technical knowhow for construction and preparation of new production pond and integrated fish farming with live stock farming like pig farming, poultry farming and duck farming was also provided to the farmers.

The farmers brought water samples of their ponds for routine water quality testing, which is done free of cost by College of Fisheries, GADVASU for the farmers of the state with an objective of helping them in managing their ponds more scientifically for higher fish productivity. Dead fish samples brought by farmers from district mukatsar were checked and diagnosed to be suffering from fin rot. Required measures for the control of the disease was provided to the farmers. Mr. Ranjodh Singh Grewal, President, IFFA and Mr. Ajit Inder Singh, Secretary, IFFA updated the activities of the association with special reference to refinement of marketing channels and establishment of a fish processing unit for higher profits.
